The deadline to get your ballot in is looming (8pm on Tuesday), and the campaigns for city council are flooding the airwaves with rhetorically loaded commericials.
Two months ago, Walter Haskill decided to announce his campaign for city council exclusively with the Mercury—still, despite having held captive the readership of such a media juggernaut, Haskill’s campaign has had a hard time getting much attention from Portlanders.
So, with only a few days to go before the election, Haskill has finally scraped together enough money to launch a couple of radio ads directly targeting sitting city commissioners. He’s decided to let us have them exclusively before they hit the airwaves.
Here is his response to the claims of Dan Saltzman.

Let’s hear it for tolerant neighbors! Mercury music editor Adam Gnade let Andy Furgeson from local electro-folksters Bark, Hide, and Horn loose in our broom closet studio and rolled the proverbial “tape.” The result was Andy playing slide geetar, harmonica, kick drum, and tambourine ALL AT THE SAME TIME. It was rowdy and it was loud and our downstairs neighbors Mercy Corps didn’t say a goddamn thi—er, we mean, they were totally gracious and didn’t complain. See the Mercury’s next issue for Adam’s full-length interview with Bark, Hide, and Horn.

This week on Portland Mercury music editor Adam Gnade’s new local music podcast, Best Show/Worst Show he plays tracks from local solo acts Valet (Honey Owens of World shown below), Josh Hydeman, and Bobby Birdman.

This show is a mix of sonic violence, ambient kitty purrs, and electronic pop.

Most of you probably didn’t catch the $150-per-head benefit fashion show for the Boost Foundation on Saturday May 6th. With showcases of designs from Michelle DeCourcy, Chris Bevans, and Souchi, it was certainly diverse. Check out the slideshow, although unfortunately I don’t know how to put up free pod-tinis an hors d’casts to give you the full experience.
