Gideon Defoe is the author of a hilarious series of pirate books that are already becoming cult classics. It turns out that success and fame actually sought Defoe out; he never intended to publish his first book, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. Now, with the ever-growing popularity of The Pirates! series, Aardman Films (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run) recently optioned to make an animated film about Defoe’s pirate tales. Christine S. Blystone recently talked to Mr. Defoe about things like pirates, chinchillas, animal sex, and cowboys. And as you’re about to find out, Defoe is just as witty and charming as his books.
