Dave Allen has been exploring the roots of post-punk and in last week’s episode he hit the ’80s and the advent of technology. This week the theme continues with a couple of industrial bands, Nitzer Ebb and Front 242, whose music became the precursor to the massive explosion of dance music in the UK in the 1990s. UK outfit Underworld especially owe a debt to Front 242. Then we hear a couple of bands that rose from the ashes of early punk bands, New Order and Love and Rockets.
It’s Thursday and that means another episode of music editor Adam Gnade’s podcast, Best Show/Worst Show. This week he plays MP3s from Wolf Parade, Horsefeathers, Grass City, (pictured below) Ghosting, and Valet.

What happens when you throw a state debate champion into a room with an opinionated, loud mouthed bitch and give them a carefully chosen topic to debate? You get the Mercury’s newest podcast: Shut up! No, you shut up!
In our first episode, Marjorie Skinner and Erik Henriksen spar over the month of August.
Check it out, then vote in the comments box. Who’s the better debater? (And can you tell who was the state debate champ, and who is the loud mouthed bitch? Tough call!)
The winner will debate someone else next week. Which means we need another weighty topic. Suggestions encouraged! Toss ‘em in the comments.
