HUMPY’S SOUL SHOW: GODFATHER OF SOUL

Posted by Mercury at 9:00 AM

Look out! It’s a special edition of HUMPY’S SOUL SHOW entitled, JAMES BROWN: TESTICLES PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT. What the hell does that mean? Well, listen and find out, because not only will we be jamming some of the more rare JB songs, we’ll be providing very interesting trivia (that includes salient information about his run-ins with the law, and yes, his testicles). DON’T MISS IT!

It’s the Jump Off: Rapper of the Year!

Posted by Mercury at 10:44 AM

It took Chas Bowie all of about .008 seconds to name Lil Wayne, AKA Weezy F. Baby, as the best raper of 2006. It all started with Dedication 2, Weezie’s mixtape that he dropped with DJ Drama in the beginning of the year. Mixing original beats with remixes of bangers like “Hustlin” and “Poppin My Collar,” Dedication 2 showed cohesiveness, intensity, and love of wordplay on a level that we had never seen from the rapper before. Soon thereafter came Like Father Like Son, a mostly great album with Birdman that featured the killer track “Stuntin Like My Daddy.” This would be a great year for most rappers, but Weezy wasn’t done yet. Immediately after Jay-Z shat out his single “Show Em What You Got,” Lil Wayne dropped his own remix, which made Jay’s version completely obsolete after one listen. If that wasn’t enough, Lil Wayne released yet another mixtape, titled Lil Weezyana, featuring “Famous,” the sickest freestyle of the year that proved that when it came to rapping in ‘06, there was nobody in the world who was going to touch Lil Wayne. Still unconvinced? Then I highly recommend listening to this podcast right now.
