I have the Romantics set up for a future episode. But now that I think about it, when I think about all the tiger beat mags that my sis bought, the red suits were quite prominent.
Eurovision contest is a glorious nightmare. I love reading the recap in Q. It doesn't seem like they ever get it right, but about once every 8 year they kind of make sense.
Looking Glass has another great song, and I mean really, REALLY great. It's even better than "Brandy" or that King Harvest song. It's called "Jimmy Loves Mary Anne" and is just begging to be rediscovered on a Tarantino soundtrack or something. (Check out the link.)
PPFNP: So I'm wondering... who do you think is carrying the NOW torch for bands like The Cars, The Romantics, Berlin, ect.... one band that comes to mind for me is The Charms from Boston...
I am very drunk right now, so Mags if this makes no sense erase it. I love the Charms! Saw them with the Nice Boys at *i think* sabala's, and they were soooo cool. I am not sure ANYONE can carry the torch of the Cars and the Knack. It was just a different time..I dunno, this will sound like old guy walking both ways in the snow uphill for 7 miles, but a guy like Ric Ocasek comes around once in a lifetime. That said, I saw the Cars live once, and they were awful! They were a studio band in my opinion. The flipside is the Knack was TREMENDOUS live, but I think Fieger burned a lot of bridges, and they were not helped by being sold as the "next Beatles" (note the back cover of the first lp)
Did my previous sentence make any sense? I think Weezer is the answer, but I think that was more relevant an answer a few years ago. I don't really see anyone now that fits the bill..
But there are a ton of towns that probably have a band that is trying that sound, and I am sure one of them will hit the note.
GOODNIGHT!

P.S. I saw a cool band the other night called "the foxgloves" but I was drunk when I said hello (shocker!) so I am sure they thought I was just a drunk douchebag *which I am*..but they had a nice new wave thing going that could at the very least be mentioned in a BERLIN/Missing Persons sort of way.
PPFNP
The Fox Gloves are cool (they have a myspace page... but any band that doesn't these days isn't really trying)...

speaking of pop music... what's the PPFNP take on the Eurovision Pop contest?
So you played the Cars, the Knack and XTC.... but not The Romantics?
