Dave Allen says, “Ok, another song demo—American Man is the working title. In case you missed the update I’m posting MP3s of rough (at times very rough like this one!) ‘work-in-progress’ demos of new songs that we, Gang of Four, are currently working on. The full story is linked to here. We are hoping to release four new songs as a digital EP in Spring 08. Song number four will be posted next week.”

It’s guest host Ned the Intern’s final episode of Easier Than Reading. Let’s give him the teary good-bye he deserves as he leads us through the acts playing around town this week one last time. Hear music from Iron & Wine (pictured above), Robyn Hitchcock, and the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. Next week, regular host Ezra Ace Caraeff returns to the show.

With several mitigating factors to blame, there is really no easy way to put this: Matt spends this episode with a severe case of diarrhea of the mouth. We think Magenta was involved; the details are sketchy. Music by David Bowie, Big Audio Dynamite, Public Enemy, and more. Welcome to episode 47 of Pure Pod for Now People!

Now it’s Gang of Four’s turn. I was not involved in the writing or recording of I Love A Man In A Uniform, as by then I’d formed Shriekback, and consequently whenever we’ve tried to play it live it sounded to me as if it was too stilted and never ‘in the pocket’ rhythmically-speaking. Here we are backstage in Istanbul giving it the semi-unplugged version—we didn’t play it on stage that night anyway….”
